My partner surprised me with a visit to the charming village of Hartfield, and it was such a nostalgic treat — especially since Winnie the Pooh has always been my favourite story.

We started the day at Pooh Corner café, where we enjoyed the cutest breakfast: bear-shaped toast topped with golden honey and sweet jam. The cozy café was filled with Pooh-themed goodies and books, instantly bringing back childhood memories and warm feelings.

After breakfast, we wandered a short distance into the nearby Ashdown Forest, the real-life inspiration for the Hundred Acre Wood. Walking through the dappled light filtering through the ancient trees, it was easy to imagine Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and the gang bustling about their adventures. The forest trails were peaceful and fragrant, and every step felt like a step back into childhood stories.

Our first stop was the famous Poohsticks Bridge, where Pooh and friends famously played their simple yet joyful game of dropping sticks into the river and watching them float under the bridge. It was such a fun moment to stand there and try the game ourselves, soaking in the beauty of the gently flowing water and surrounding greenery.

Nearby, we found Piglet’s tiny house, nestled quietly among the trees, and Pooh’s own quaint home — both lovingly maintained and perfect spots to pause and imagine the characters’ lives. The whole forest felt like a living storybook, where nature and imagination seamlessly blend.

Before leaving, we visited the delightful Winnie the Pooh Museum back in Hartfield. Filled with memorabilia, original illustrations, and heartwarming stories, the museum celebrates the enduring charm of A.A. Milne’s creations. We couldn’t resist picking up a little wooden Pooh frame as a keepsake — a reminder of this magical day surrounded by the whimsy of childhood.

Visiting the Winnie the Pooh Forest was a truly enchanting experience, a wonderful mix of nostalgia, nature, and literary history. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or discovering Pooh for the first time, it’s a place where the simple joys of storytelling come alive, and the spirit of friendship and adventure is always close at hand.
