We were lucky enough to go on holiday with my mum while she was visiting, which was such a blessing. We decided to travel to the Spanish island of Mallorca. Despite it being November it was still an average temperature of 20 degrees celsius so we still got to enjoy soaking up the sun by the beach.
We were staying in the outskirts of Palma, the capital city of Mallorca. Our accommodation was about a three minute walk from the beach, which was beautiful and private.
On our first full day, it was unfortunately grey skies, however we still made our way into the city centre and explored the sights. We started at the Llotja de Palma, a 15th-century guild building with dramatic Gothic architecture. Next, we visited the Jardines de S’Hort del Rei, near the royal palace.
After this, we went to the Royal Palace of La Almudaina and Palma Cathedral. The palace dates back to the 14th century and is the official residence of the King and Queen during their stays in Mallorca. We weren’t able to go inside the palace unfortunately, but we did go into the cathedral, which is as massive as it is impressive. Known as La Seu, the cathedral is famous for its enormous Gothic architecture, with one of the tallest naves in Europe, as well as its spectacular rose window, one of the largest Gothic rose windows in the world. The interior was also partly redesigned by Antoni Gaudí, the famous Catalan architect best known for Barcelona’s Sagrada Família and his distinctive, nature-inspired architecture, adding another layer of history and character to an already spectacular building.
We then had dinner at a beachside restaurant, including a few frozen strawberry daiquiris which were delicious.
The next day, we took a trip to Sóller – a beautiful inland village famous for its distinctive cathedral and cable car that goes all the way down to the seaside port. We enjoyed exploring the morning market, the cathedral, before taking the cable car down to the town along the seaside.
We had some gelato, and wandered up to the Museu de la Mar viewpoint, before heading back to our accommodation to meet mum for dinner by the beach.
We had such a beautiful time in Mallorca, and it was so special getting to explore Spain for the first time with my mum, I loved it.
